In December of 2006 our 23 year old son, Will, a graduate student, came home from the holidays and contracted poison oak during a ten mile run. On January 5, 2007, he fainted and hit his head shortly after receiving a steroid shot to ease the poison oak rash. He was ambulanced to the emergency room and given a CT-Scan to determine the extent of his injuries. The CT-Scan revealed an avocado sized brain tumor and a biopsy confirmed a malignant glioma, a particularly aggressive and intractable form of brain cancer, the same kind of brain cancer that Ted Kennedy and Bob Novak were diagnosed with in 2008.
This type of cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death among young people (the number one cause is Leukemia). Malignant gliomas are the:
Ø 2nd leading cause of cancer related deaths in children under age 20
Ø 2nd leading cause of cancer related deaths in males up to age 39
Ø 2nd leading cause of cancer related deaths in females under age 20.
Ø 5th leading cause of cancer related deaths in females ages 20–39.6

The Will Power Research Fund exists to support research efforts that are trying to understand and discover a cure for Malignant Glioma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer and provide resources for victims and their families. On this site, you will find information on the disease, current research efforts, events and sponsorship opportunities, and the stories of courageous individuals battling Malignant Glioma. We invite you to browse the site to learn more about Malignant Glioma, the Will Power Research Fund, and the opportunities that exist for you to make a difference. To support our cause click here.
